The animation shows Family Face-Off on one iPhone Duo in six steps:
- This is iPhone Duo, closed. It has a second screen on the outside, about the size of one half of the inner screen.
- Open it like a book. The big inner screen is your host panel.
- Fold it to about 90 degrees. Hold the flat half like a gamepad, then tap Turn on the room screen.
- The outer screen faces the room. Teams see the question, the answers they found and the points on the board.
- The inner screen faces you. Tap the answer the team gave, and it turns over for the room. The strike button sits under your left thumb.
- Close the phone, and the room screen goes off. Your game stays where it is. Fold it back to about 90 degrees to show the room again.
You need an iPhone Duo with iOS 27.1 or later and the Quizado app for iPhone. Family Face-Off plays online on every plan, the free Home plan too; premium packs need Starter, and your own survey set needs Pro. Up to 4 teams play. iOS shows our game on the outer screen only while the camera is on, so you see the camera dot. Nothing is recorded or sent.
Start Family Face-Off
Start Family Face-Off in the Quizado app as usual and set it up in the lobby. The controller appears on the control panel once the game runs.
Fold and turn on the room screen
Fold the phone to about 90 degrees, with the outer screen facing the room, and hold the flat half like a gamepad. Tap Turn on the room screen, or the Room screen off chip at the top. The first time, iOS asks for the camera: allow it. The chip turns to Room screen on, and the room sees the question, the answer slots, both teams with their strikes, and the pot.
Start the face-off
While the board is face down, the pad shows one big button per team. Tap the team that steps up, and the face-off starts; a team that buzzed on a phone is highlighted. While no team is answering yet, tap the team that answers first.
Play or pass
The team that wins the face-off decides. Tap Play, or Pass to with the other team's name.
Tap the answers
The answers are big buttons on the right. Tap what the team said, and it turns over on the outer screen. For a wrong answer, tap the strike button on the left: its label follows the stage, such as Strike 2 or Steal failed. Undo by the fold takes back a wrong tap.
Award the round
Tap Award the Round by the fold, and the pad turns into one button per team: tap the winner. Then tap Reveal Remaining, Continue for each answer left, and Next Question.
Turn off the room screen
Tap ... at the top, then Turn off the room screen, or leave the game. The camera stops with the room screen. The same menu holds Redo, End Game and Game screen.
Tips
- Tap a team's score up top to put that team in control.
- The audience vote, the Speed Round and the final standings stay on the normal control panel. The outer screen still shows the game during them.
- A TV or projector on AirPlay or a cable still works: it shows the same game as the outer screen.
- The chip reads Room screen starting while iOS has not shown the outer screen yet, for example after a call took the camera. Tap it to try again.
Questions
Can the room see the answers before I reveal them?
No. The answer buttons are on the inner screen, which faces you. An answer shows on the outer screen only when you tap it.
Why does the camera turn on?
iOS lets an app show its own picture on the iPhone Duo's outer screen only while the app uses the camera. Quizado runs the camera with no preview while the room screen is on. Nothing is recorded or sent.
