Play Trivia on iPhone Duo

Run a Trivia night from one folded iPhone Duo. Teams answer on their phones, the room sees the question on the outer screen, and one big button under your thumb moves the night on.

Every plan
1 of 6This is iPhone Duo, closed. It has a second screen on the outside, about the size of one half of the inner screen.

The animation shows Trivia on one iPhone Duo in six steps:

  1. This is iPhone Duo, closed. It has a second screen on the outside, about the size of one half of the inner screen.
  2. Open it like a book. The big inner screen is your host panel.
  3. Fold it to about 90 degrees. Hold the flat half like a gamepad, then tap Turn on the room screen.
  4. The outer screen faces the room. Teams see the question, the options, the clock and how many teams answered.
  5. The inner screen faces you. Tap Lock Answers, then Reveal Answer. The room sees the right option.
  6. Close the phone, and the room screen goes off. Your game stays where it is. Fold it back to about 90 degrees to show the room again.
Before you start

You need an iPhone Duo with iOS 27.1 or later and the Quizado app for iPhone. Trivia plays on every plan, the free Home plan too: Home gets the free packs, up to 4 player phones and 2 game starts in any 24 hours. Music Bingo needs Pro or Business. iOS shows our game on the outer screen only while the camera is on, so you see the camera dot. Nothing is recorded or sent.

  1. Start Trivia

Start a Trivia night in the Quizado app as usual, and let the teams join on their phones in the lobby. The controller appears on the control panel once the game runs.

  2. Fold and turn on the room screen

Fold the phone to about 90 degrees, with the outer screen facing the room, and hold the flat half like a gamepad. Tap Turn on the room screen, or the Room screen off chip at the top. The first time, iOS asks for the camera: allow it. The chip turns to Room screen on, and the room sees the question, the options, the timer, how many teams answered, the reveal and the scoreboard.

  3. Run each question with one button

One big button under your right thumb runs each question: Lock Answers, Reveal Answer, Next Question, and the steps at the end of a round. Skip to Next and Scores sit by the fold. When a team holds the buzzer, Mark as no answer is on the left and Reopen by the fold.

  4. Mark typed answers

For typed answers, the pad shows one team at a time. Tap Wrong on the left, or the correct button with its points on the right. When several teams typed the same answer, a button such as All 3 correct by the fold marks them all at once.

  5. Music and price rounds

In Catch That Tune, Pause or Play is on the left and Replay by the fold, and the song shows only to you. In Music Bingo, use Pause or Play and Next song, and the pad walks you through each BINGO call. In Price Check, the price and every bid show only to you, and the button to skip a team's turn sits by the fold.

  6. Start the next round

At the round break, the big button reads Start Next Round: with the name of the next round. Tap it when the room is ready. Undo and End Game sit by the fold.

  7. Turn off the room screen

Tap ... at the top, then Turn off the room screen, or leave the game. The camera stops with the room screen. The same menu holds Redo, End Game and Game screen.

Tips

  • The lobby, audience votes, slides and the finished screen stay on the normal control panel. The outer screen still shows the game during them.
  • Frames other than the question, the reveal and the scoreboard keep the normal big-screen layout on the outer screen.
  • A TV or projector on AirPlay or a cable still works: it shows the same game as the outer screen.
  • The chip reads Room screen starting while iOS has not shown the outer screen yet, for example after a call took the camera. Tap it to try again.

Questions

Do teams still need phones?

Yes. Teams answer on their own phones, as on any Trivia night. The iPhone Duo is your control panel and the screen for the room.

Why does the camera turn on?

iOS lets an app show its own picture on the iPhone Duo's outer screen only while the app uses the camera. Quizado runs the camera with no preview while the room screen is on. Nothing is recorded or sent.
